Siddipet: In a record of sorts, nearly 400 private school students appeared for a written examination on Monday, seeking admission into the Zilla Parishad High School–Indira Nagar Public School, a prominent government school in Siddipet town.
The aspirants are competing for just 40 to 50 seats available in Class 6, as the school has already admitted the remaining seats to students from nearby government primary schools under its purview.
Interestingly, some of the applicants came with recommendation letters from local MLA T Harish Rao, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other elected representatives and officials. Headmaster A Raja Prabhakar Reddy was surprised when one candidate produced a recommendation from the Chief Minister’s Office seeking admission into Class 9.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Prabhakar Reddy said the school has 220 seats in Class 6. Of these, 170 were filled with students from five government primary schools. Preference was also given to orphaned, semi-orphaned and economically disadvantaged students. A screening test was conducted for the remaining 400 students to select the best among them for the 50 seats left.

Competition was even more intense for Class 7, where 113 students applied for just nine seats, prompting the school to conduct another screening test.
The institution has been receiving a growing number of applications in recent years due to its consistently top-performing Class 10 results in Siddipet and focus on holistic development. It is equipped with a computer lab, digital classrooms, science lab, and library, and also offers spoken English and foreign language coaching in collaboration with the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU).
Last year, 74 out of 220 students scored over 500 marks in Class 10, with four of the top six scorers in the district hailing from Indira Nagar Public School.
Due to the overwhelming demand, applications were accepted online this year. Despite instructions not to apply for admissions to Classes 7, 8, 9 and 10, the school still received a large number of applications.
From having just over 300 students five years ago, the school has transformed into one of the most sought-after institutions in Siddipet district, thanks to the special focus and sustained efforts of former Minister T Harish Rao and district officials to improve infrastructure and academic standards.
Harish Rao expressed confidence that the school would continue to scale new heights and serve as a model for others. He also pledged continued support to the school’s management.
Due to the overwhelming response, the school has now placed a ‘No Admissions’ board at its entrance.
