Hyderabad: After police raided singer Mangli‘s birthday bash at Chevella resort for allegedly organising a liquor party without valid permission, the Telugu folk singer put out a video on Wednesday evening claiming innocence over the episode.
She said, “The birthday party was hosted by my family members and relatives at the farm house as per the wishes of my parents. The party was hastily planned at the resort. I had no knowledge if proper permission had to be taken for such birthday events — liquor parties or putting up DJ sound systems. If I knew this, I would have definitely sought permission from the police department. No one had told me about the permission. There were no other intoxicants in the resort as reported in the media, except liquor,” she said.
Earlier, officials said several other violations were identified by the police, including the suspected use of drugs, lack of necessary permissions from authorities, and the illegal use of DJ sound systems at the venue.
She further said, “The police conducted searches but did not find any traces of banned substances/drugs. The police said that the person who tested positive for allegedly consuming ganja might have taken it some other place and attended the event. Police are investigating it. We are also cooperating with the police officials.”
She further questioned as to why she would resort to such illegal activity of consuming drugs when she had her parents along with her. “Why would I do such a thing by going against the law? Would I dare to do such a thing when I have my parents accompanying me? When I always wanted to set an example to society, why would I do such illegal activity,” the singer said. She further urged the media not to publish false reports against her.
