Hyderabad: A six-lane bi-directional elevated corridor has been proposed at LB Nagar to ease traffic congestion in the southern parts of Hyderabad and ensure signal-free travel to save time and fuel.

The proposed corridor, planned under the Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project, was initially proposed by the erstwhile GHMC, which transferred it to newly formed Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC).

The previous BRS government had built three flyovers and three underpasses at LB Nagar junction as area experiences heavy traffic jams for hours. The proposed elevated corridor is to be the fourth such structure.

The new corridor aims to improve traffic movement between LB Nagar Junction towards the Old City (Santosh Nagar) for the benefit of nearly one lakh commuters travelling across the TKR College, Gayathri Nagar, and Manda Mallamma junctions, according to a senior MMC engineer. The MA&UD also cleared and approved an administrative sanction of Rs 416 crore, he said.

The proposed elevated corridor will cross over TKR College Junction, Gayathri Nagar Junction, and Manda Mallamma Junction and once ready, it is expected to bring big relief to commuters travelling from LB Nagar to Aramghar stretch and ease commute towards the Old City, Meerpet and Badangpet, said the MMC official.

As part of SRDP, three flyovers and three underpasses were built at LB Nagar junction:

Flyovers:

• Two separate unidirectional flyovers constructed near Kamineni Hospitals junction

• A multi-lane flyover crossing over LB Nagar junction towards Vijayawada Highway

Underpasses:

• LB Nagar Left Hand Side (LHS) Underpass facilitates conflict-free travel from Uppal towards Owaisi Hospital junction / Srisailam Road

• LB Nagar Right Hand Side (RHS) Underpass enables signal-free transit from Nalgonda, Warangal, and Vijayawada Highway heading into city

• Chintalkunta Junction Underpass eases traffic gridlocks from Vijayawada Highway to Sagar Road and vice versa
