Adilabad: Soybean farmers said they were facing inconvenience in selling their produce due to norms set by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED). They staged a sit in protest in front of an agriculture market yard here on Tuesday, demanding that the government procure soybeans without restrictions.
The protesting farmers said they were struggling to sell soybean produce due to various norms imposed by both the State and the Centre. They urged the State government to withdraw the restrictions and avoid inconvenience to farmers. They regretted that they had raised the oilseed crop after facing hardships and investing heavily.
Following the protest, soy farmers prevented cotton laden bullock carts and tractors from entering the market yard, resulting in a halt in cotton procurement. However, the protest was withdrawn after officials assured them that their grievances would be addressed, enabling the resumption of cotton procurement.
On Monday, farmers had staged a protest by kneeling down at the Bela mandal centre, alleging harassment by officials citing NAFED norms while procuring soybean produce.
