SP B Rohith Raju inaugurated newly established District Cybercrimes Coordination Centre in Kothagudem.
Kothagudem: Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju inaugurated the newly established District Cybercrimes Coordination Centre here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion the SP said that the centre set up at Chunchupally police station would support the victims of cybercrimes across the district and help them recover the lost money. One cyber warrior each was assigned to 28 police stations to assist victims of cybercrimes.
Cybercriminals were looting money from the accounts of innocent people by devising new techniques from time to time. Cybercrimes Coordination Centre would resolve the cases registered in all the police stations besides alerting people about cybercrimes, he noted.
Rohith Raju informed that the district police would organise awareness programmes in all police stations to educate the public on how to keep themselves safe from cybercrimes. Those who lost money due to cybercrimes should immediately call the toll free number 1930 to lodge a complaint.
Lodging complaints within the golden hour was important as the bank accounts of the cybercriminals could be frozen and the affected persons have a chance to get their cash back.
So far, 265 cybercrime cases were registered across the district. An amount of Rs.2.61 crore was retrieved from the accounts of the cybercriminals and returned to the complainants, the SP added.
Additional SP (operations) Paritosh Pankaj, DSP Abdul Rahaman, SB inspectors Nagaraju, and Srinivas, Chunchupally CI Venkateshwarlu, cybercrimes inspector Jitender and others were present.
