Khammam: Celebrations were organised all over erstwhile Khammam district in a spirited manner marking disbursement of the eighth instalment of investment support to farmers under Rythu Bandhu Scheme.
The celebrations were being conducted by elected members and leaders following the directions of TRS working president and IT Minister KT Rama Rao in compliance with the Covid rules.
On the instructions of Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Khammam Agricultural Market Committee (AMC) Chairperson D Lakshmi Prasanna with the help of others created a formation, ‘Jai Rythu Bandhu KCR’ with dry chilli at the market yard.
At Vepakuntla village in Raghunathapalem mandal, women drew rangoli patterns in the form of ‘Telangana Rythu Bandhu’. Similarly women in many other villages also took part in Rythu Bandhu celebrations.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Ajay Kumar said that Telangana was at the forefront of agricultural production even during the Corona crisis. The State witnessed an extraordinary success in surpassing Punjab in rice production.
Rythu Bandhu boosted the morale of the farmers. Investment support given to farmers under the scheme, including the 8th instalment, had reached Rs 50,000 crore. No government in any State in the country or the Centre has given so many funds to the peasantry since independence.
Rs 2,661 crore in Khammam district
In Khammam district, Rs 2,661 crore has been deposited in farmers’ accounts from the vanakalam of 2018 to the ensuing yasangi season. An amount of Rs 362.28 crore was released for a total of 3,16,422 farmers across the district.
As on Monday Rs 200.17 crore was deposited in 2,60,797 bank accounts. The rest would be credited to their accounts by Jan 10. Crop investment support has shed new light on the lives of farmers who were freed from debt and money lenders, Ajay Kumar said.
Rythu Bandhu a bold move: MP Nama
TRS Lok Sabha leader Nama Nageswarao described disbursement of Rythu Bandhu as a bold move to reassure farmers at a time when Congress and BJP parties were maintaining double standards on farmers’ issues and paddy procurement.
Telangana was the only State in India that spends Rs 60,000 crore annually on agriculture. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao proved that his government was a pro-farmer one, the MP said. He wanted TRS cadres to hold festivities till Jan 10 in a grand manner.
