As Sports and games are an integral part of every student’s life and have become a way of life for a healthy living, children of grade 1 and 2 of the Delhi Public School, Nacharam, witnessed Sports Week in full glory. The whole idea was to inculcate the feeling of true sportsmanship and enhance their physical and social skills.
The week offered a great opportunity for the students as well as teachers to get active and try some new home sports and experiences while enjoying themselves. The teachers emphasized on the importance of a balanced lifestyle between academics and extracurricular activities in a child’s life and encouraged them to play games for healthy mind and body.
Various activities like Ball in the Basket, Lemon and Spoon Race, and Zumba were planned throughout the week. The children were also given a 60 minutes challenge wherein they were asked to record their physical activities on daily basis and they all actively participated with great zeal.
A special assembly ‘Khel Khel Mein’ was also organised on November 27 where Principal Sunitha Rao addressed the children and spoke about benefits of sports being an integral part of curriculum. Headmistress Uma Kasinadhuni emphasised on importance of sports in our lives and how it keeps us physically, mentally and emotionally fit.
All the children and parents were ready for the sporting action to take place. The assembly showcased students participating enthusiastically in different activities like interviewing achievers, yoga, meditation, jogging and zumba. The whole purpose of celebrating this week was to help children develop multiple qualities such as discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, self-defence, sense of togetherness and stamina. The little ones enjoyed and had a great learning experience while indulging in indoor physical activities and made memories to be cherished forever.
