Sr. Congress leader VH raises alarm over ‘co-living culture’ in Hyderabad, seeks govt intervention
VH Rao also called upon psychologists, social thinkers, and rights activists to create public awareness and work collectively to build a strong and civilised society.
Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the rise of co-living culture in Hyderabad, claiming it was giving way to “unhealthy practices” and disturbing social norms.
He urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu to take immediate action against co-living accommodations, particularly those operating in Hitec City, Madhapur, and Gachibowli.
“These spaces, where men and women live together, are spreading fast and could lead to major social problems,” he said, addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan.
Hanumantha Rao observed that while faction murders were once frequently reported in the media, changing relationship dynamics have now led to an increase in crimes linked to what he termed “love murders”.
“Wives killing husbands and daughters killing mothers have become an alarming trend,” he stated, urging the government to introduce regulations for co-living arrangements, warning of their potential long-term impact on society.
He also called upon psychologists, social thinkers, and rights activists to create public awareness and work collectively to build a strong and civilised society.
