Rajanna-Sircilla: The celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Seetha was celebrated with a difference and grand scale in the ancient Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple, Vemulawada on Sunday.
Devotees, who had not been allowed into the temple to take part in Sri Rama Navami celebrations during the last two years due to Covid pandemic, participated in Sri Rama and Seetha wedding ceremony in a big way this time around.
Wedding of Joginies, Shiva Parvathulu, Hizras and brides of lord Shiva with the presiding deity was the important ceremony in the entire Sri Rama Navami celebration held in Vemulawada shrine.
Considering themselves as bridge of Lord Shiva, the devotees attired themselves by wearing new clothes and jewelry, applying turmeric on their faces and vermilion on their foreheads.
Besides ‘jhola’ (sling bag) containing ‘thalambralu’ (rice mixed with turmeric), Trishul (tridents), which were also decorated with bright flowers and a bell, were also carried by them. During the marriage rituals, the devotees carrying tridents tied with bells shook to make a rhythmic sound as the wedding was performed amid chanting of Vedic hymns.
When the marriage ritual of Lord Rama and Seetha was declared completed by the temple priests, they sprinkle the ‘thalambralu’ on the idols of lord Rama and Seetha and declare their marriage with Shiva by applying ‘zilakara bellam’ (jaggery and jeera paste) on their heads before tying yellow thread carrying ‘rudraksha’ around their necks.
A huge number of devotees from different parts of the state as well as adjacent states such as Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh thronged the temple town to watch the celestial wedding of Lord Sri Rama and Seetha.
So, the temple authorities had arranged 15 LED screens to help the devotees witness the wedding ceremony in the entire temple town.
