Karimnagar: Collector and District Election Officer RV Karnan said all arrangements were made to conduct Huzurabad by-election scheduled on Saturday, in transparent, free and fair manner.
The Collector along with Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana and returning officer Ch Ravinder Reddy organised a press conference in Huzurabad on Friday.
Informing that 306 polling stations were established in the constituency by following Covid norms, he said that polling would be held from 7 am to 7 pm. There was no chance to organise meetings since Section 144 was in force in the segment.
Polling staff, who had taken double doses of Covid vaccine, were deployed for polling duties. Besides, adequate lighting arrangements, solar lamps and charging lights were arranged in all polling stations.
Informing that voter slips were distributed to all voters, the Collector said that the voter slips would not be considered as ID cards to exercise votes. Voters must carry any of 12 ID cards identified by the Election Commission of India to cast their votes.
The Collector instructed polling agents not to carry mobile phones inside the polling station. He informed them to respond immediately and take action if any complaint was lodged through the C-Vigil app about the distribution of money and liquor to voters.
Performance of flying squad and static surveillance teams deployed in every mandal was satisfactory. Informing that model code was being implemented perfectly, he advised the people not to believe rumours being spread on social media. He asked voters to utilise their franchise.
CP Satyanarayana said he would reach the spot within 10 minutes if anybody lodged a complaint through the C-Vigil app. Even if they were not alerted by the people, flying squad teams would identify the people who were trying to allure the voters. He said that both offering and demanding of money were crimes.
Cases would be registered against people who lodge fake complaints. So far, 130 cases were registered under MCC and an amount of Rs 3.5 crore was seized.
Tight security arrangements were made in five mandals of the constituency. Services of 74 special police officers, 700 Karimnagar district police and 1,471 other district cops had been utilised.
Informing that there were 107 sensitive polling stations, he said that additional forces were deployed in those stations.
As campaign concluded 72 hours before the polling, the CP asked all non-local people to leave the constituency. They have identified 4,000 non-locals and sent them away from the segment.
