The Telangana government’s initiative ‘Medicine from the Sky’ was launched on Saturday to deliver medicines to remote areas using drones. Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Telangana’s Minister for Industries and Information Technology, K. T. Rama Rao formally launched the project at Vikarabad, making Telangana the first state to use drones to deliver medicines. The maiden drone delivered a five kg box of vaccine doses to a community health centre located three kilometres away in 10 minutes. The first sortie was carried out by a drone built by SkyAir Mobility for its Consortium partner ‘Blue Dart Express’. Life-saving drugs, vaccines, blood and even organs for transplantation could easily be transported to remote places while saving precious time, Rama Rao said while speaking at the launch event.
Andhra Pradesh
Gangavaram Port in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday said it has logged multiple records in the handling of various cargo commodities including discharging 26,885 Metric Tonne (MT) of fertilizer within 24 hours using the Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHCs), said the press statement issued on Tuesday by the port authority.

The port has also discharged 64,575 MT of urea from a vessel berthed at the port and clocked the fastest urea discharge rate in its history. The port also achieved another milestone by loading 23,500 MT of pig iron in 24 hours by using the vessel cranes, surpassing its earlier record of 16,600 MT in 24 hours. Gangavaram Port has been developed as an all-weather, multipurpose port with water depth up to 21 meters, making it the deepest and capable of handling fully laden Super Cape size vessels.
Jharkhand
The Jharkhand Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill that provides for 75 per cent reservation to locals in jobs with salaries up to Rs 40,000 a month in the private sector amid uproarious scenes. Once the Jharkhand State Employment of Local Candidates in Private Sector Bill, 2021, is enacted, Jharkhand will become the third state in the country after Andhra Pradesh and Haryana having a law providing for reservation in private sector jobs for local residents. The bill was earlier cleared by a select committee of the Jharkhand Assembly with some changes. It was tabled during the budget session in March and was referred for vetting to a six-member select committee formed by Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto.
Jammu and Kashmir
The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department has lined up various activities, including promoting destination festivals and organising dedicated trekking-expeditions, to attract tourists to the union territory. This was said at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary A K Mehta held to review various activities being undertaken by the Tourism department.
The meeting was informed that as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the department will organise an iconic week celebration in the last week of October this year, which will include performances on Hafiz Nagma, Kalam-e-Khusroo, Kalam-e-Baba Fareed, Qawwali, Baul Sufi folk, Darrvish Sufi dance, and Haziri Kathak, besides literary seminar on Sufism and exhibition of local arts, calligraphy, and Sufi traditions.
Assam
The search area at the boat disaster site at Nemati Ghat was expanded to downstream of Brahmaputra river and to the surrounding and hunt for the victims, official sources said. Deep divers were also engaged at different locations to fish out victims but no trace of them was found, the sources added. The National Disaster Response Force engaged 110 rescuers who searched approximately 45 km downstream and surrounding area of the incident site on Friday, the sources said. At least one person was killed and one remained untraced when a private boat with around 90 passengers heading to Majuli had collided head on with a government-owned ferry near Nimati Ghat on Wednesday.
