Hyderabad: To enhance public safety and monitor activities along the 4-km stretch from Mehfil Hotel in Mailardevpally to Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport—commonly referred to as Cargo Road—the Cyberabad and Rachakonda police are jointly working to install a network of high-definition surveillance cameras.
The stretch, which sees regular traffic during the day and significantly less at night, falls under the jurisdiction of both police commissionerates, necessitating coordinated surveillance efforts.
The decision follows an incident of arson on Sunday night near the WAMBAY Colony junction in Mailardevpally, where miscreants set fire to DCM vehicles and attacked drivers transporting animal waste.
Senior officials from both Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates visited the site and concluded that round-the-clock electronic monitoring of the stretch was essential to prevent future incidents.
“Our patrolling teams are active in the area. Closed-circuit cameras have already been installed in colonies and villages. We are now taking steps to install surveillance cameras along Cargo Road as well,” said an official from the Cyberabad police.
The stretch includes several areas such as Durganagar, Mailardevpally, Sriram Nagar, Madannegudem, Jalpally village, and Habeeb Colony. Several vacant plots along the road reportedly become hotspots for antisocial activities after dark.
“There are at least two bars and three wine shops along the road. People often gather on the roadside to consume alcohol. Surveillance cameras are crucial to making the area safer, especially for women,” said M. Satish, a resident of Sriram Nagar.
