Hyderabad: The management of the 160-year-old Mahbub College Society, Secunderabad, announced on Monday that its Swami Vivekananda Institute of Technology (SVIT), an engineering college, will remain closed on Tuesday, June 10.

The decision to shut down the engineering college comes amid an ongoing management dispute that has reportedly stalled the crucial renewal of affiliation from JNTUH for the 2025-26 academic year, potentially jeopardising the future of 1,800 students.

On Monday, senior management members of the Mahbub College Society, led by its president PL Srinivas and members Dr Prem Narayan, Dr Anil Kumar, Naresh Yadav, and Bhagwath Varanasi, met Governor Jishnu Dev Varma. They sought his intervention to secure the students’ future and ensure justice for the long-standing Mahbub College Society.

In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the Society requested his immediate intervention to facilitate a visit by JNTUH’s Fact-Finding Committee (FFC) for the 2025-26 affiliation process.

The Society members also informed the Governor that a complaint filed at the Market Police Station had led to an FIR being registered against “innocent employees” of SVIT. They added that, in view of the FIR, “students of SVIT have resolved to abstain from attending classes and college on June 9 and 10.”
