Former minister Jogu Ramanna was detained in Adilabad after calling for a ritual to purify the Chanaka-Korata irrigation project, inaugurated by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Ramanna criticised the police for detaining him and accused the CM of failing to irrigate even a single acre while taking credit for projects initiated under the BRS regime.

The state government gave the administrative approval for implementing the project at an estimated cost of Rs 368.80 crores in November 2015. Later the government had given the administrative approval for implementation of the additional components that became part of the project at a cost of Rs 795.94 crores in January, 2022.
