In Hualien, near the quake's epicenter, workers utilized an excavator to fortify the base of a damaged building with construction materials, averting a potential collapse.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed the occurrence, reporting that the seismic activity took place on February 29, at precisely 11:23:26 Indian Standard Time (IST).
"Earthquake of Magnitude:7.2, Occurred on 22-01-2024, 23:39:11 IST, Lat: 40.96 & Long: 78.30, Depth: 80 Km,Location: Southern Xinjiang, China," the National Center for Seismology said on X.
The tremors were felt at 7:06:19 Indian Standard Time (IST). The epicentre of the quake was registered at latitude 9.97 and longitude 93.54 at a depth of 11 km, according to NCS.
