The challenge before the Election Commission now is to ensure the smooth conduct of polls in J&K

The Election Commission of India is expected to announce the schedule for Haryana's 90-seat Assembly elections. The primary contest is anticipated between the BJP and Congress, with the Aam Aadmi Party contesting all seats. The Commission recently reviewed poll preparedness and addressed concerns raised by political parties

With the model code of conduct still in vogue, the State government had appealed to the Election Commission to permit the conduct of cabinet meeting.

Polling will also be held for the by-election of the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency in Hyderabad.

Earlier, a notification for the appointment of the two Election Commissioners was issued by the Central government on Thursday evening.

The EC did not reserve the symbol to JSP as it is not a recognised political party or regional party in Telangana.

Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj directed the Collectors and District Election Officers in the State to initiate measures accordingly.

Intensified checking of vehicles, including those of Ministers and other elected public representatives is taking place in all the districts.

He suggested that complaints received via the c-Vigil app be promptly communicated to field officers.

In addition to this, the Commission has ordered transfer of District Election Officers (DEOs) in Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajigiri, Yadadri Bhongir and Nirmal districts.

After the EC on Monday barred Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for 24 hours, her party claimed that the poll panel was behaving like a 'wing of the BJP'.

The ban comes into force ahead of the fifth phase of Assembly polls in the state on April 17.
