Twitter began widespread layoffs Friday as new owner Elon Musk overhauls the social platform.

Some of the employees who lost their jobs at Twitter India and did not wish to be named told IANS that when they logged in to their systems from home (Twitter is still in the work-from-home mode) on Friday, they were denied access.

He finally closed his $44billion takeover of the social media platform last week, and promptly set about announcing a string of changes, reports metro.co.uk.

Employees were set to receive an email by 9 a.m. PST (9.30 p.m. India time) confirming whether they have been laid off or not, according to an internal memo seen by The Verge.

Despite the outrage on the internet regarding the pay, Musk has maintained that the move was reasonable

Musk met his advisors, including former PayPal executive David Sacks, to finalise a plan to fire about 3,800 workers, the Verge quoted its deputy editor Alex Heath as saying in the report.
