BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme has revived the SRSP flood canal through reverse pumping, providing irrigation to nearly two lakh acres. He said the infrastructure is helping supply water across the State following heavy Godavari inflows.
Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said all nine pumping units of the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme will operate round the clock to maximise water lifting from the Godavari. He also defended the project and criticised the BRS over the Kaleshwaram issue
Raises concerns that Congress government's move to divert water from Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme will affect erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts
The state government has responded by releasing Rs 60 crore to address immediate needs and maintain the PRLIS, where work has been stalled since December last.
The previous BRS government used to release water to Kudavelly Vagu, and all the canals under Mallanna Sagar, Kondapochamma Sagar, Ranganayaka Sagar and other projects under Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, says Kotha Prabhakar Reddy.
Koutala Sub-Inspector N Madhukar said that unknown persons burnt the electric motor, transformer and starter belonging to a minor lift irrigation scheme built at the river as they could not copper wire from the motor and transformer.
