Protesting farmers from Uttar Pradesh have blocked National Highway-9 near the UP Gate while those from Punjab and Haryana are staying put at other border points leading to Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Delhi Congress have arranged food and other essential items for the agitating farmers, who have been sitting on the Delhi-Haryana border for the last six days since.

The former UP chief minister also accused the government of giving false promises of doubling income of farmers.

The Narendra Modi-led NDA government has set a target of doubling farmers' income by 2022.

Singh said while nobody knew when the second wave of infection would strike Punjab, the experience of the NCR and other states and regions showed it was almost certain.

Punjab farmers' bodies also lashed out at the Centre for suspending goods trains in the state that has affected supply of coal, fertiliser and other essential items.

According to data from the national transporter, till date more than 2225 freight rakes carrying vital commodities could not be operated due to the blockages caused by the protestors.
