The GHMC has intensified its special sanitation drive, focusing on cleaning lakes and nalas across the city. Launched on February 3, the campaign covered 579 areas in 300 wards over four days.

GHMC commissioner RV Karnan has transferred and posted 60 Deputy Executive Engineers to the Solid Waste Management wing following the merger of 27 urban local bodies into GHMC limits. The corporation has been reorganised into 12 zones and 60 circles to strengthen waste management operations.

Although there are multiple measures and interventions in place to manage solid waste in the city, none seem to be effective
