The Supreme Court has directed the Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide within three months on disqualification petitions against 10 BRS MLAs who joined the Congress. It warned against delays, reaffirming that Speakers’ decisions are subject to judicial review.

By relying on apex court judgements, the counsel further argued that disqualification petition should be decided as early as possible and the same cannot be put on hold for several months.
The Congress won 64 seats in the recently concluded assembly polls and its ally CPI got one seat. BRS bagged 39 seats while AIMIM was victorious in seven seats. The BJP secured eight seats.
The nominations can be submitted to the State Legislature Secretary in person either by the proposer or the candidate nominated. A Member cannot propose his own name or propose more than one name.
