Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao on Wednesday wanted Agriculture officials to work in coordination with farmers' bodies to address the issue of stubble burning before it turned detrimental to life.

Harish Rao said that the government had failed to make arrangements to purchase paddy, cotton, and maize, forcing farmers to sell their produce to middlemen at a much cheaper rate than the MSP.

The Civil Supplies department promised to purchase 8.16 lakh tonnes of paddy in October itself. But as on October 28, only 7,629 tonnes of paddy has been purchased from 913 farmers," he said.

"Farmers are being deceived in every way," he said, expressing anger over the government’s failure to commence crop procurement and provide MSP as promised during elections.

Procurement of paddy has not started in many paddy purchasing centers in the erstwhile Karimnagar district.
