Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav questioned the Centre and the State government for not conducting any inquiry into multiple failures at irrigation projects in the State during the Congress regime.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Srinivas Yadav demanded that central agencies, including the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), probe and ascertain the causes for the collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, which led to the death of eight workers. He also sought similar action with regard to the collapse of a retaining wall at the Sunkisala project, submergence of the Vattem project pump house, and blasting of checkdams in different parts of the State.
“The BJP-led Centre was quick to send NDSA teams to the Medigadda barrage and blame the then BRS government for the damage. But why were no similar inquiries ordered into other project failures and accidents?” he questioned.
The former Minister said the inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project by the Justice PC Ghose Commission was flawed. He said the High Court verdict in this case was a strong lesson for both the Congress and the BJP, which ran a false campaign against BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for political mileage.
He also alleged that the Congress government made no efforts to repair the damaged piers, despite contract agencies offering to fix the damage at no additional burden to the State exchequer. He accused Congress leaders of spreading misinformation and failing to focus on governance after coming to power.
Responding to a question, Srinivas Yadav said genuine Congress leaders have lost their senses and are remaining mute spectators even though Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is openly siding with NDA leaders in Delhi. He suggested that they stop blaming the BRS government and focus on governing the State as well as protecting their party.
