Hyderabad: The BC Commission has received more than 500 objections and appeals regarding change of names and addition of synonyms in respect of eight castes.
The Commission had issued a notification on January 3 for change of names and addition of synonyms in respect of eight castes. Accordingly, 15 days was allotted for receipt of objections and the deadline ended on Saturday.
Representatives of respective caste communities submitted their objections and appeals in the form of affidavits at the Commission office in Khairatabad. BC Commission Chairman G Niranjan and other members participated in the discussions with the caste associations.
The Commission will examine these affidavits thoroughly and take a decision on the change of names of some castes, especially of those that are derogatory in the society, without disturbing the culture of the castes of Telangana.
It also said that in future, the students, youth and employees belonging to the respective castes will not be subjected to any feeling of inferiority.
Meanwhile, the respective castes have requested that the district restrictions be lifted in the matter of the “Bhunjwa” caste and that the caste called “Dhangar” in the combined Adilabad district, whose caste profession is sheep and goat rearing, be included in the BC list, according to a release issued by the Commission.
