The Telangana BC Commission said the community was facing injustice over statutory reservations and demanded a constitutional amendment to ensure 42 per cent BC quota. The Commission condoled the death of Sai Eshwar Chary and urged people not to take extreme steps while fighting for rights.
The Telangana Backward Classes Commission has objected to the reduction of BC reservations in Gram Panchayat elections, urging the State government to keep the polls in abeyance until errors are rectified. Chairman G. Niranjan and Commission Members highlighted that while BCs received 22.78 percent reservations in 2019, the figure has now dropped to 21.39 percent despite a household survey.
The Commission had issued a notification on January 3 for change of names and addition of synonyms in respect of eight castes. Accordingly, 15 days was allotted for receipt of objections and the deadline ended on Saturday
On Saturday, BC Commission Chairman G. Niranjan spoke with Nirmal District Collector Abhilash Abhinav by phone to gather details on the issue. The BC Commission has also sent an official letter to the Collector regarding the matter.
The leaders from various communities belonging to the erstwhile Nizamabad district, including Kamareddy, participated in the public hearing and submitted their representations to a team headed by BC Commission chairman G Niranjan
Addressing a press conference here, Niranjan said the people of Telangana were not happy with the welcome and honours extended to Chandrababu Naidu last week in Hyderabad.
The complaint was re-directed to the Moghalpura police, who booked a case under section 188 of the IPC for disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant.
