Telangana Cabinet Takes Key Decisions on River Godavari, Infrastructure Projects, and Welfare Initiatives

Hyderabad: In a significant decision, the Telangana State Cabinet has assured that not a single drop of River Godavari water would be lost due to the proposed Banakacherla project by Andhra Pradesh. The Cabinet has also committed to sharing full details of the issue, including the state government’s opposition efforts and future course of action, with elected public representatives during the first week of July.
The meeting, held at the Secretariat on Monday, deliberated on a wide range of issues and took decisions on several key matters.
Key Decisions and Announcements:
Response to Kaleshwaram Commission: The Cabinet decided to submit all the information sought by the Kaleshwaram Commission by June 30. This is part of ongoing efforts to address concerns related to the project and ensure transparency.
Rythu Nestham Programme: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that a Rythu Nestham programme would be held at the Rajiv Gandhi statue opposite the Secretariat on Tuesday. This event will mark the extension of Rs. 9,000 crore under the Rythu Bharosa scheme for the welfare of farmers.
Statues of Telangana Thalli: In a move to honor the state’s cultural heritage, statues of Telangana Thalli (Mother Telangana) will be installed at all District Collectorate offices across the state before November 9.
Regional Ring Road Project: The Central Government has already sanctioned part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. On Monday, the Cabinet approved the remaining stretch covering 201 km, from Choutuppal to Sangareddy.
Bifurcation-Related Issues: The Cabinet also discussed the resolution of pending bifurcation-related issues with Andhra Pradesh, particularly concerning the division of Housing Board properties. The state government will write to its Andhra Pradesh counterpart through the constituted committee.
Enhancing Sports Quota and Policies: The Cabinet approved the State Sports Policy and decided to increase reservations under the sports quota. Additionally, Cabinet meetings will now be held twice a month, with decisions being reviewed quarterly to ensure effective implementation.
Formation of New Municipalities: The Cabinet has also approved the formation of two new municipalities, Indresham and Jinnaram in Sangareddy district, as well as the upgradation of Isnapur municipality by merging nearby villages.
Education and Welfare Initiatives: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the ‘Telangana Rising Vision’ document would be unveiled on December 9. The Cabinet also sanctioned the establishment of an IIIT at Mahabubnagar, similar to the one in Basara, and the creation of Shatavahana University’s engineering college at Husnabad, offering four courses and 240 seats.
Health and Cancer Prevention Initiatives: The state government has appointed Padmasri awardee Dr. Noori Dattatreya as an advisor for cancer prevention initiatives. The move underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare in the state.
