Hyderabad: Unlike the present corporate style, the school uniform designs prescribed for the forthcoming academic year are unappealing and have gone dull. The Telangana Congress government made significant changes to the government and local body school students’ uniforms.
For boys, the present uniforms feature the pant-coloured strap on the shirt shoulders, sleeves and pockets, which has now been removed entirely in the new prescribed uniform, making them look plain.
The girls uniforms have also undergone similar design changes, removing waistcoat coloured straps from the sleeves of punjabi dress and shirts besides shirt coloured strap on body-frock for primary class girl students. However, for both girls and boys, the uniform colour– red and ash colour checks printed shirt and maroon dyed for suiting- remained the same.
“The new prescribed school uniform design is not appealing. The previous design is good and I appeal to the School Education department to retain the same design,” said a High School headmaster.
During the academic year 2023-24, the School Education department made changes to design and pattern of the uniforms, which presented a corporate style to students studying in the government and local body schools. The changes were made on the recommendations of the fashion designers and the same pattern was followed this academic year as well. However, now the government has tweaked the uniform design.
As many as 19,91,986 students studying in Classes I to XII in all Government, local bodies, TGREIS, Model Schools, KGBVs, Urban Residential Schools, TW Primary and Aided Schools will be provided two pairs of school uniforms for the academic year 2025-26, like every academic year. The uniforms stitching has been entrusted to the self-help groups or slum level federations.
In a recent proceeding, the School Education department instructed district educational officers to complete uniforms stitching by May 31 and distribute them to eligible students on June 12, the school reopening day.
