Hyderabad: Ignoring requests for better uniforms, the State government decided to provide short pants (knickers), along with shirts, for the Class VI and VII students for the forthcoming academic year. Students have been raising issues over wearing knickers as part of school uniform.
The School Education department, in its revised uniform design for the academic year 2025-26, prescribed shirts and knickers for boys in Classes I to VII.
According to a headmaster, several representations were submitted to the department against providing knickers for the Class VI and VII students. However, the requests went in vain.
“The Class VI and VII are hesitating to wear knickers for school. We made several representations for provisions of pants and shirts for these students. At least now the department has to incorporate our requests,” a headmaster said.
The government schools also wanted the State government to provide stitching charges on par with residential schools. Presently, the uniform stitching charges for government schools is Rs.75 per pair per student, while it is Rs.100 per pair per student studying in a residential school.
