Mahabubnagar: Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday said the State BJP leaders, who failed to question the Central government’s discrimination towards Telangana, however, make tall claims about the development plans for the State.
“The Central government sanctioned 157 medical colleges for different States in the country but not one was sanctioned to Telangana. This discrimination was never raised by BJP leaders here,” he said.
Despite the Centre’s discrimination, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao sanctioned 17 medical colleges in the State and eight of them had already been launched this academic year, the Minister said, after launching a 30-bed CHC hospital at Balanagar at a cost of Rs. 5 crore. Later, he also launched a similar hospital at Koilkonda in Narayanpet district.
Pointing out that in the past, there were no ICU or dialysis centres in erstwhile Mahabubnagar, Harish Rao said the State government sanctioned three medical colleges to erstwhile Mahabubnagar at a total cost of about Rs.1,500 crore.
Permission for Rs.450-crore medical college at Mahabubnagar was obtained in nine months, the medical college at Wanaparthy was being built with Rs.510 crore and the one at Nagarkurnool was coming up at a cost of Rs.510 crore, he said.
“Following Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud’s request, the Chief Minister will be laying the foundation stone for a 900 bed hospital in Mahabubnagar town soon,” said Harish Rao.
The Minister further pointed out that in the recent report released by Niti Ayog, Telangana ranks third after Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the health sector.
“Much is being said about the double engine growth by the BJP, stating that if the same party ruled both the Centre and State, it would pave the way for faster development. However, in Uttar Pradesh, BJP is in power and Prime Minister Narendra Modi represents Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency and yet the State was ranked last in the Niti Ayog report,” he said.
“BJP leaders confine themselves to making statements but TRS government fulfills promises,” Harish Rao said.
In the past, many leaders from Palamuru had worked as Ministers and Congress ruled for many years. Even the Prime Minister had campaigned here during elections, yet there was no development in Mahabubnagar and it was popular for migration of labour, he said.
After TRS came to power, there was rapid development in the district. All the pending irrigation projects, including Nettempadu and Bheema were completed and sufficient water was being provided to farming community, besides drinking water to Jadcherla and Mahabubnagar towns, he said.
Covid: No need to panic, says Harish Rao
Health Minister T Harish Rao said there was a possibility of Covid-19 cases increasing further by February last week or March first week. “People need not panic but should follow Covid appropriate behaviour strictly,” he said.
The Minister said the State government was making elaborate arrangements to ensure quality treatment for people in government hospitals. “Do not get admitted in private hospitals and pay exorbitant charges. Government hospitals are equipped to extend quality treatment,” he said, adding that two crore testing kits and two crore home isolation kits were already arranged for distribution.
Many doctors, ANMs and staff nurses had tested positive for Covid but others were rendering services without any hindrance, he said, adding: “The next two to three weeks are crucial and we need to follow Covid guidelines.”
