Hyderabad: Justice Pulla Karthik of the Telangana High Court on Friday directed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to process the recommendations forwarded by the State Government for appointment of the Director General of Police (Head of Police Force) and to complete the entire exercise within a period of four weeks.
The Judge also disposed of the request made by the petitioner, Dhanagopal, who had sought suspension of the appointment of B. Shivadhar Reddy as DGP (HoPF).
The court directed the UPSC to place a compliance report before it and adjourned the matter to February 5 for further hearing. It was brought to the notice of the court that the State Government had forwarded a panel of eligible IPS officers to the Union Public Service Commission in December 2025.
However, the Commission returned the proposal on January 1, 2026, advising the State to approach the Supreme Court for clarification, stating that the panel was not in conformity with the directions issued by the apex court governing appointments to the post of DGP.
Taking note of the submissions, Justice Pulla Karthik directed the Commission to proceed with the recommendations already sent by the State and ensure completion of the process within the stipulated time, while keeping the issue open for further consideration on the next date of hearing.
