Hyderabad: Justice NV Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction with the Banjara Hills Police for flouting the procedures of arrest. The Judge directed the Police to render their explanation as to why they picked up the petitioner without there being any FIR against him, and further, as to why his vehicle was kept in their custody without any authority.
RV Samrat Vamshi filed a writ plea challenging the high-handed action of the Banjara Hills police at the behest of Congress leader C Rohin Reddy, a close aide of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Vamshi contended that he was illegally picked up by the Banjara Hills police on November 29 from his home. He was initially taken near Rohin Reddy’s home and later to the police station. He stated that the police in mufti were accompanied by associates of Rohin Reddy. He also alleged that the police and private persons threatened him to settle a matter, detaining him that evening and taking his vehicle and mobile phone into illegal custody.
Counsel for the petitioner, S Goutham, submitted that the police had illegally summoned him every day and created a terrifying situation for his family by visiting their residence. To cover up the illegality, the police registered a false case on December 1 based on a complaint referring to an incident from May 2025, the counsel submitted. He further contended that the police had flouted the statutory requirements and the Supreme Court judgment in Arnesh Kumar regarding inquiry and arrest.
The Judge also wondered how the police detained the petitioner’s vehicle without any authority. Accordingly, he sought a response from the Banjara Hills Police within two weeks.
