Hyderabad: This Saturday, parents have to make at least one promise regarding their child’s education at the school. The new exercise, which will be held during the parent-teacher meeting (PTM), is aimed at actively involving parents in their children’s learning.
The government and local body school, KGBVs, and Model School teachers have been instructed to ensure that parents attending PTM make one promise and follow it for the next month.
The six promises, which the parents have to read aloud, are “I will send my child to school every day”, “If my child is absent from school, I will inform the teacher”, “I will ask my child every day what happened at school”, “I will make sure my child studies at home every day”, “I will attend every PTM this year and discuss my child’s learning and behaviour” and “I will go to school once a month and discuss my child’s progress with the teachers individually”.
They have to sign the register next to the promise they picked. “This is not a form — it is a promise. Treat it that way,” said School Education director Dr E Naveen Nicolas in a noting.
Parents have also been asked to give their feedback on their child’s academic growth by writing their feedback or recording a short audio or video clip of 3-4 minutes.
The schools have been instructed to inform parents about the PTM on July 18 and ensure 100 per cent parents’ participation. “It is suggested that the PTM may be conducted at a time convenient to the parents,” he added.
