Telangana junior lecturer post aspirants in state of despair, uncertainty

The provisional selection list for about 17 subjects has been notified by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC). However, the selection list for about 10 subjects, which constitute a major chunk of posts, is yet to be announced by the Commission that delayed the hiring process.

Hyderabad: Nearly two years have gone by since issuance of the notification recruitment to junior lecturer (JL) posts in the government run junior colleges, the hiring process is yet to be completed, leaving several hundreds of aspirants in state of despair and uncertainty.

The provisional selection list for about 17 subjects has been notified by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC). However, the selection list for about 10 subjects, which constitute a major chunk of posts, is yet to be announced by the Commission that delayed the hiring process.

After 14 long-years the junior lecturer recruitment notification was issued by the previous BRS government in 2022. Previously, the junior lecturer posts were notified in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government in 2008. Further, creating history, the then BRS government decided to fill up 1,392 posts in 27 subjects.

After investing years of preparation and hard work, several candidates made it to the general ranking list of the JL recruitment after cracking the recruitment test. However, they are now facing indefinite wait and uncertain future due to snail’s progress in the recruitment process.

This delay in releasing the selection list and handing over the appointment orders has cast a shadow on not just aspirants’ professional aspirations but also their personal lives. They have been forced to run pillar to post, meeting Ministers, advisors to government and officials urging them to expedite the recruitment process but in vain.

In fact, several aspirants have recently staged a protest at Praja Bhavan holding placards demanding handing over the appointment letters for candidates who have figured in the selection list.

One among the aspirants who protested is Suman, a wheelchair bound JL aspirant who secured an impressive position in the general ranking list.

The TGPSC broke records by announcing Group – I Main selection in 1:50 within a month into the prelims exam, Suma said, adding that history was also created by filling up around 11,000 teachers posts via the DSC in just two months.

“Why is the Commission unable to complete the recruitment process to 1,392 posts,” he questioned and said they have been approaching Ministers, advisors to government and TGPSC repeatedly to expedite the process but there was no or little progress.

According to some aspirants, the TGPSC has prioritized finalising the Group – IV selection list and appointment orders, sidelining the JL recruitment process. Efforts to reach TGPSC Chairman M Mahendar Reddy and Secretary Dr. E Naveen Nicolas for a comment on the issue proved futile.
