Kothagudem: A deeksha taken up by journalists here for house plots reached its third day on Saturday, with several political and people’s organisations expressing solidarity with the journalists.

The deeksha was launched by the Kothagudem Journalists’ House Sites Struggle Committee on Thursday near Gangabishan Basthi Rythu Vedika in the district headquarters.

CPI (ML) New Democracy leader G Nageswara Rao, IFTU leader N Sanjeev and PDSU leader Pranay Kumar participated in the deeksha on Saturday extending solidarity to the journalists.

Nageswara Rao said the previous BRS government had allocated 10 acres for journalists, but now the Congress government imposed restrictions on the land given to them asking them to pay Rs 4,000 per yard. The house plots should be given to journalists without any restrictions.

He alleged that every party that comes to power exploits journalists, makes many promises and ignores them. The role of journalists in sensitising the people and bringing them into the struggle for Telangana Statehood should not be forgotten, he said.

Journalists play a major role in taking government schemes to the public and public problems to the attention of the government.

CPI (ML) New Democracy stands by the journalists’ legal fight, Nageswara Rao said.

BRS leader Navathan, Telangana Jana Samithi leader Mallela Ramanadham, BJP leader Godugu Sridhar, former Municipal Chairperson Kapu Seetha Lakshmi, CPI (M) leader M Venkateswarlu, Adivasi JAC leader V Ramakrishna Dora and others supported the journalists’ deeksha.
