Hyderabad: With the power demand for the upcoming Rabi and summer seasons in the State expected to exceed 19,000 MW, Energy department officials are drawing up plans to meet the demand.
Principal Secretary (Energy) Naveen Mittal held a meeting with TGSPDCL, TGTRANSCO, TGGENCO, TGNPDCL and TGREDCO officials in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The Chief Engineers and Superintending Engineers were specifically directed to complete all line repairs, installation of new transformers and other developmental works by December.
Given the expected surge in demand, 72 new substations will be established under Southern DISCOM and 31 under Northern DISCOM. Under TRANSCO, the capacity of transformers at 181 EHT substations is being enhanced. Additionally, 8,384 new distribution transformers will be installed under Southern DISCOM, and 5,280 under Northern DISCOM.
Under TSGENCO, overhaul work has been completed for almost all power generation units, with BTPS and KTPS-IV units nearing completion. All units of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station will become operational in a few months, adding 4,000 MW of generation capacity. Adequate coal supply has been ensured for thermal plants, officials said.
Singareni CMD Balaram said that coal production currently stands at 1.80 million tonnes per day, and is expected to reach 2.20 million tonnes per day by November. He assured that sufficient coal would be available for all State thermal plants during the Rabi and summer seasons.
Under the PM-eDrive initiative, the Principal Secretary urged government organisations to take advantage of the incentives for setting up EV charging stations and to raise awareness accordingly.
TGSPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqui said that under the ongoing EV infrastructure survey, 3,121 potential locations for EV charging stations have been identified as of October 25, and the number is likely to increase further.
