Sangareddy: The BDL Bhanur police on Sunday arrested Amit Raj Sinha, the managing director and chief executive officer of Sigachi Industries Limited, nearly six months after the blast occurred at the Pashamylaram industrial area unit of the firm on June 30.

In a press statement, Sangareddy Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj said Sinha was produced before a Sangareddy court and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Further investigation was underway, Pankaj said, adding that Sinha was arraigned as the second accused in the FIR and cases under BNS sections of 105, 110, 118(1), 118(2) registered against him.

While 54 workers of Sigachi died in the blast, many others sustained serious injuries. Most of them were still bedridden. Meanwhile, the Sigachi management released a media statement hours after the arrest, stating that they would fully cooperate with the investigating officers. They reiterated that they would stand by the promises they made to the families of the victims and the injured persons.

Meanwhile, relatives of the victims pointed out that the management had not completed the release of compensation even six months after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore from the company’s side.

Responding to the arrest of Sinha, BRS leader Gadila Srikanth Goud said the government should arrest all the accused in the case. He accused the government of supporting the industry management ignoring the interests of the victims’ kin.
