Telangana to strengthen medical infrastructure
Cabinet sub-committee constituted to review condition of government hospitals and study best practices in other States, Sri Lanka
Hyderabad: To strengthen its health infrastructure to provide better medical care to people of Telangana, the State government has decided to come up with an action plan.
A Cabinet sub-committee has been constituted to review the conditions of government hospitals as well as study the best practices in others States and also neighbouring country of Sri Lanka, to submit a report with necessary recommendations.
The Cabinet sub-committee chaired by Finance Minister T Harish Rao, will comprise Ministers G Jagadish Reddy, Talsani Srinivas Yadav, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, V Srinivas Goud, P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Satyavathi Rathod as members. The sub-committee will visit Tamil Nadu and Kerala which are providing best medical services in the country as well as Sri Lanka, to study and submit a comprehensive report recommending necessary action to improve the medical and healthcare in the State. It will also review the condition of the government hospitals and will make recommendations to improve the facilities, staff and other infrastructure.
Health Profile Programme
During the meeting chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the State Cabinet decided to launch Telangana Health Profile programme in Mulugu and Rajanna Sircilla districts as a pilot project. The government will also modernise blood banks to meet the needs of all hospitals and accordingly, establish new blood banks. The Cabinet also directed the Medical Department to provide the necessary infrastructure for better medical services in the specialised departments of medicine such as orthopaedics and neurology.
More Diagnostic centres
In addition to the 19 government diagnostic centres to be launched across the State on Wednesday, the government will establish them in other districts in a phased manner. These centres will have services such as ECG, digital X-ray, ultrasound, 2D Echo and other tests as well as mammogram machinery.
For treatment of allergic diseases, special centres will be established in Hyderabad, Warangal and Siddipet. Considering the increasing number of patients, it has been decided to increase dialysis machines in the existing centres across the State apart from establishing new centres. The Cabinet approved the proposals for setting up district-level cancer centres to provide chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer patients.
Hospital Upgradation
The State Cabinet also approved construction of 100-bed hospitals in Satthupalli and Madhira towns as well as develop the existing hospitals into Mother and Childcare Centres (MCC). It has also decided to increase the capacity of the existing MCC in Suryapet from 50 beds to 200 beds. For the convenience of attendants of patients undergoing treatment in government hospitals, the government will create accommodation facility in all government hospitals across the State.
The proposed multi-super specialty hospital on the premises of the Warangal central prison which is being vacated, will be developed on the lines of AIIMS. The Cabinet approved recruitment of qualified candidates who completed MD in hospital administration in all major government hospitals for effective management and administration. It was also proposed to offer courses in nursing, mid-wifery, lab technician, radiology, dialysis and other courses which are part of medical services in all government hospitals and medical colleges.
The government also decided to strengthen the MCC (mother and childcare centres) by setting up separate buildings away from the main hospitals in Hyderabad as well as in district headquarters. The Cabinet directed the officials concerned to submit proposals to construct new buildings for these MCCs and provide all required facilities including a special Maternal ICU units for pregnant women who have been categorised as high-risk and also Neonatal ICU for newborns.
Anticipating the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the State, the Cabinet has also directed the officials to equip the hospitals with necessary infrastructure and medicines as a precautionary measure. Appreciating the efforts of the Medical and Health departments, the Cabinet cleared a proposal to supply a balanced nutritious food kit to pregnant women from their third month until delivery of the baby.
