Hyderabad: A 45-year-old man died by suicide allegedly upset over not being selected as a beneficiary for the government’s Indiramma Housing Scheme in Chintapatla village of Yacharam on Friday.
Doddi Ashok, who is survived by wife and three daughters, had applied for the Indiramma Housing Scheme which is being implemented by the State government. Since he did not have a house of his own, his name also appeared in the first list. However, in the recent list released by the officials, his name was missing.
Allegedly upset over it, Ashok hanged from the ceiling fan in his house in the early hours and ended his life when his family members were fast asleep.
Ashok’s family alleged that he was upset and angry that the house which was sanctioned earlier was cancelled due to the fraudulent activities of local political leaders.
Mild tension prevailed as family members, relatives, villagers and local political leaders held a protest with Ashok’s body in front of Chintapatla Gram Panchayat office. They demanded justice and houses to the poor families in the village at the earliest.
Yacharam Inspector Nandeeshwar Reddy reached the spot and pacified the protestors and shifted the body to the hospital for autopsy.
A case was booked and being investigated. Based on the outcome, necessary action will be taken, he said.
