Telangana’s Nizamabad Central Prison gets weaving unit, will employ 26 inmates
The unit, comprising 13 weaving machines, will be used to make towels, napkins, bedsheets and clothes, among other items, which will be distributed among prisoners and sold to public as well
Hyderabad: Director General of Prisons Dr Sowmya Mishra inaugurated a weaving unit at Central Prison Nizamabad on Monday in presence of Nizamabad CP Sindhu Sharma.
The weaving unit, comprising 13 weaving machines, will employ 26 jail inmates who will make towels, napkins, bedsheets and clothes, among others.
“The products will be distributed to prisoners and convicts, and will also be sold to public through the Prison Department’s stalls,” Mishra said.
The machinery was shifted from Central Prison Cherlapally to Central Prison Nizamabad recently and assembled there.
Already, there is a steel industry unit, printing press unit, tailoring unit and phenyl unit at the Nizamabad jail where prisoners work and earn substantial wages.
New prisoners are trained in the vocations as part of the rehabilitation programmes.
