Hyderabad: Telangana has a stock of 13 lakh quintals of seed required for the cultivation of various crops during the ongoing Vaanakalam (Kharif) season in the State. Farm operations commenced in about 18.88 lakh acres across the State with cotton alone sown in around 14.82 lakh acres and red gram in 1.58 lakh acres.
In a statement here on Tuesday, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said the department is fully prepared to meet the needs of farmers during the monsoon season. As per the decision to promote organic farming, the government has supplied compost fertilisers worth Rs 61.52 crore to farmers on subsidy which can improve soil fertility in about 14 lakh acres.
Further, about 8.64 lakh tonnes of fertilisers, including around 4.41 lakh tonnes of urea, is currently available with the State as on date.
Meanwhile, the average rainfall in the State was about 137.6 mm rainfall, which is 40 per cent more than normal of 95.4 mm rainfall as on date. The government had deposited Rs 6,669.79 crore into the bank accounts of 59.71 lakh farmers under Rythu Bandhu. “We made all arrangements to meet the requirements of farmers in the State as per directions of the Chief Minister,” Niranjan Reddy said.
