Hyderabad: The employees appointed under the ‘Bread Winner Scheme’ and ‘Medical Invalidation Scheme’ in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) have submitted a detailed representation to the Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Y Nagi Reddy, urging him to regularise their long pending appointments without further delay.
Nearly 2,000 employees, currently working as conductors, shramiks, drivers and constables across various depots, jointly prepared the representation describing years of hardship, financial strain and administrative delays they endured since the deaths of their family members who served the Corporation.
The employees stated that although they are the legal dependents of deceased RTC staff, their appointments were stalled for nearly a decade. While the Corporation restarted the process in 2023, most compensation candidates were offered only three-year contract postings with a consolidated pay of Rs 20,600 instead of regular jobs.
Calling this unprecedented in TGSRTC’s 93-year history, the workers said, “We waited more than eight years for justice. After losing our breadwinners, our families went through unbearable financial and emotional distress. Even after finally getting jobs, we are placed on contract terms, which are deeply unfair.”
The employees also cited discrepancies that occurred in appointments. “Candidates whose parents died earlier were given lower priority, while others whose parents died later received regular postings,” they said, adding that similar irregularities occurred across all seven regions of TGSRTC.
The employees said that despite heavy workloads under the ‘Mahalakshmi’ free bus travel scheme, their grievances were ignored by previous management. They also expressed concern over the newly issued TSLPRB recruitment notification for 1,743 regular posts, stating that fresh recruitment should not proceed until all Bread Winner appointees are regularised.
The employees also requested job security similar to APSRTC and suggested legislative support to safeguard their future, especially given the high bus occupancy and increased workload under government welfare schemes.
