Warangal: Come summer, many children in the urban pockets go to the special camps organised by different academies and sports clubs. However, there was a break for almost two years due to Covid-19 pandemic which crippled the normal life and confined the children to the four walls of their respective houses.
During the summer, many parents like to engage their children mostly in sports activities like swimming, skating, cycling and other games, while some others go for music, drawing, dance and other art forms. But here is an innovative and unique summer camp to be organised in Warangal soon targeting the children aged between 9 years to 15 years with a special focus on nature.
Society, a not for profit organisation, led by Mohan Polepaka is all set to organise this unique camp called “The Dreamer” with a special focus on nature, animal care activities, meeting the new farm arrivals, nature walks, and simple farm cooking activities in addition to the regular activities taken at the routine summer camps.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, Mohan said that the camp would be conducted for five weeks with five days a week at their eight acre farm land at Gorrekunta village on the outskirts of Warangal city. “As a part of the camp, we are going to teach responsibility and kindness for the farm, each other, and our environment since protection of Mother Nature is an urgent need,” he said.
“Kids will be explored the kinds of food, good and super foods, knowledge on balanced and healthy diet, health and hygienic practices at home and school, extra curriculum i.e., Music, Drawing and Painting, Magic, Agriculture, Food, Heritage, Culture, Ethics, Anthropological human psychology and philosophy etc., We are roping in special trainers and teachers from Mumbai, Hyderabad and Warangal,” Mohan said.
It is a complete residential camp with food and accommodation for five days a week. “Parents may plan to join their wards in a one week or five week programme. We are charging Rs 5,000 per week,” Mohan said.
“Kids will have fun while they can learn about ecology, the environment, and the plants and animals we depend on for food and clothing. Campers will develop a stronger connection to the farm and the origin of their food at this camp. Each session offers different activities that are based on the week’s themes, but every week will include garden work, games, cooking projects, crafts, science activities, and (of course) farm chores. It will be very beneficial for those who lack knowledge on rural areas, agriculture and animal rearing,” said former District Forest Officer (DFO) K Purushotham, who is associated with the camp as a mentor.
“Each day is planned with fun-filled activity based learning and ends with a campfire. Follow Covid -19 protocol and precautions,” Mohan added. For more details, people can reach the organisers at ‘info@society.org.in’.
