Proposes special drive in rural areas to assess exact situation in order to deal with any emergency
Hyderabad: Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod said the Department of Women and Child Welfare (DW&CW) should be in the forefront to extend necessary services to the needy people in the wake of reports of outbreak of third wave of Covid-19 which is likely to affect children.
Interacting with officials through video conference on the precautionary measures to be taken during the third wave, the Minister complimented the staff, especially Anganwadi workers for extending valuable services during the pandemic.
The staff should lay more focus on the safety measures to be taken in the larger interest of children. Moreover, it is the responsibility of everyone to take care of the children, pregnant women and lactating mothers during a pandemic. During the second wave, several women and children were affected with Covid-19 virus.
More awareness programmes should be conducted to educate women in rural areas on the safety measures to be taken to protect children from Covid. “We should conduct a special drive to know the exact situation so that we can deal with any emergency,” the Minister said.
The department should develop the network in such a manner that it must get the information first if anyone was affected with Covid. This will help in getting timely treatment to the affected persons. Since Anganwadi workers were playing a key in distributing essential commodities, they should be careful while discharging their duties.
Department of Women and Child Welfare Commissioner D Divya said a child helpline 1098 and another toll-free number 180059912345 was set up to give necessary assistance during emergency situations and child response vehicles were also given to each district to bring children to the nearest hospital.
“We are laying more emphasis on giving nutritional food to the children,” she said.
