Hyderabad: Deep earth excavation and pillar works for three multi-level flyovers at the IIIT junction near ISB are progressing at a brisk pace, according to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials.
The project, which includes three flyovers at IIIT Junction, Khajaguda and WIPRO junction, aims to create a signal-free corridor within the Cyberabad IT belt.
Following the completion of soil testing a few months ago, heavy machinery has been deployed for deep excavation, with pillar works now officially underway at the IIIT junction site.
At present, motorists in these areas endure gruelling traffic jams during peak hours from 8 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 10 pm. The situation worsened during last year’s monsoons, when incessant rains led to severe inundation and total gridlock.
IT professionals returning home reported being stranded for three to five hours in separate queues that stretched from Gachibowli towards Lingampally, JNTU and Mehdipatnam.
To resolve these persistent bottlenecks, the GHMC is investing Rs 800 crore into this massive infrastructure overhaul. The plan includes three flyovers and a dedicated underpass at the IIIT Junction.
“Once completed, commuters will be able to reach their destinations without encountering a single traffic signal,” a GHMC official told Telangana Today. “This will not only reduce travel time but also significantly cut down on fuel consumption.”
The GHMC has set a May 2028 deadline for the completion of all three flyovers and the underpass.
