Hyderabad: A woman from Hayathnagar has alleged that she was cheated of Rs 50 lakh by three persons who falsely promised to resolve her land encroachment issue through their supposed connections with HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency).
According to the police, one Chaitanya Pannala had approached HYDRAA in June over illegal road laying by a real estate firm near her property.
During the process, she discussed the matter with her cousin, who introduced her to S Naresh, claiming to be a legal advisor for a YouTube channel. Naresh allegedly assured her that he could resolve the matter through his strong connections with HYDRAA officials. He further introduced Chandu Srinivas, said to have good rapport with the agency.
Police said the woman trusted their claims and disclosed her issue. The accused then demanded cash, stating that no official would handle her case without payment. In June, Praveen, an associate of Naresh, allegedly collected Rs 20 lakh from her in Madhapur, assuring it would be handed over to Naresh.
Later that month, Naresh personally visited her house near Vertex Ventures at Mankhal and demanded the balance amount of Rs 30 lakh.
When the woman hesitated, Naresh sent a person to collect the money the following day. After confirming over a phone call that the man was his associate, she handed over the cash. In total, she paid Rs 50 lakh, believing the issue would be resolved.
However, no action followed. Realizing she had been deceived, the woman lodged a formal complaint.
Based on a complaint filed by HYDRAA authorities, the Pahadishareef police booked a case and are investigating.
Police said the suspects not only took the money but also misused HYDRAA’s name, giving false assurances of official support.
