Hyderabad: Following a fresh tiger attack in Basantapur on Tuesday, the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district collector visited the village and warned residents not to venture out after 5 pm. The tiger has been terrorising cattle in the district for over two weeks.
M Hanumantha Rao, collector of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, said that the tiger, which was heading to the Siddipet mandal, again returned to Rajapet mandal in the district and killed a calf.
“The forest department is seeking assistance from animal trackers who have come from Kagaznagar and Adilabad to track the tiger. Thermal drones will monitor the movement of tigers at night. Cages have been set up at different places. People should avoid moving out between 5 pm and 7 am. We don’t know where the tiger is heading or wandering. It is important to be alert,” said Hanumantha Rao, district collector, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.
He urged the villagers staying particularly in Turkapally, Yadadri and Rajapet mandals of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district to stay alert. “Although officials are making every effort, the tiger is still wandering around in search of a proper habitat. In villages, we have formed youth groups, and we are coordinating with the officials as well,” the district collector said.
The collector said that they are in touch with the officials of Jangaon and Siddipet districts as well and are monitoring the developments. “Until there is foolproof evidence that the tiger has left the district, the people need to be alert. People should also take precautions in regard to their cattle,” M Hanumantha Rao.
The police, power department, panchayath raj department and other departments are on alert. “Farmers should take steps to protect their cattle as well. The officials are taking all steps to ensure it is sent back to its habitat. The entire administration is trying to resolve the issue,” he added.
