Hyderabad: Completely ignoring the Congress party’s Udaipur Declaration, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said there was no restriction on the number of posts to persons from the same family.
If leaders can win the people’s confidence and their hearts, any number of people from a family can come. Ultimately, how many people and who should be given opportunities would be decided collectively, he said at a press conference here on Monday.
However, the TPCC president’s comments are in sharp contrast of the Congress party’s Udaipur Declaration adopted in 2023. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi had specifically instructed the party leaders that ‘One family, one ticket’ rule must be strictly enforced. He had also stressed on limiting the number of family members being given posts in the party. There should not be a situation where many members of a family were holding posts in the organization, he had insisted.
But the TPCC president appears to have different views in this regard. Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy has been demanding a berth in the cabinet and even questioning over what was wrong if two brothers were in the cabinet.
When he was asked to comment on Rajgopal Reddy’s demands, the TPCC president said what Rajgopal Reddy said was his personal opinion. There was democratic freedom in the party and he also spoke about former Minister K Jana Reddy but did he respond, Goud asked.
Jana Reddy did not raise any objections over cabinet berths to any particular person. However, the State leadership would examine if Rajgopal Reddy had crossed the line and then a decision would be taken, he said.
Cabinet expansion would be done after considering many factors, including district and regional equations, caste equations etc. In public arena, there was no restriction that only one person should come from a family, he said.
“While offering designations or posts, if one works hard for people, he or she can be considered even if they belong to same family,” Goud defended.
