Hyderabad: The Telangana Prantha Upadhyaya Sangam (TPUS) on Tuesday urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to exempt teachers from BLO (Booth Level Officer) election duties.

In a representation submitted to Telangana CEO C Sudharshan Reddy, TPUS president V Rajashekhar and general secretary T Pentaiah said several teachers working in Hyderabad district were assigned BLO election duties, which is disrupting the teaching and learning process in schools.

“When the academic year is nearing completion, it is essential for teachers to remain in schools to ensure completion of lessons and academic activities. Assigning election duties to teachers during this period is adversely affecting the educational process,” they said.

Seeking exemption for teachers from election duties, keeping in mind the welfare of students, TPUS appealed to the CEO to consider utilising non-teaching staff for such responsibilities.
