Training engineers vital for protecting heritage structures: GHMC official

GHMC Additional Commissioner stressed the importance of training engineers in heritage restoration while inaugurating a two-day conservation programme by QQSUDA and AKTC. Site visits, expert talks, and live demonstrations were conducted at the Telangana Assembly and Qutb Shahi Tombs

Hyderabad: Training programmes for engineers will significantly aid restoration and conservation of heritage structures, GHMC Additional Commissioner Anuraag Jayanti said while inaugurating a two-day training programme on heritage conservation projects organised by the Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) in collaboration with Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC).

As part of the training, participants were taken on site visits to the Telangana Legislative Assembly building and the Qutb Shahi Tombs, where live demonstrations on conservation practices were conducted.


The sessions also featured talks by Ratish Nanda, CEO of AKTC India, Dr Benny Kuriakose, Conservation Consultant, and Ujwala Menon, Conservation Architect. QQSUDA Chief Engineer B Gopal and Executive Engineer Mohammed Wahajuddin were among those present.

Sajjad Shahid, Co-Convenor of INTACH Hyderabad, delivered a presentation on Hyderabad’s architectural legacy, principles of conservation, structural repairs, and the use of traditional materials.
