Hyderabad: A series of low-intensity earthquakes struck the Hingoli-Nanded region of Maharashtra on Thursday morning, causing tremors that were felt across several districts in Telangana including Nirmal, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Kamareddy and Jagtial.
According to the observations from the National Centre for Seismology, the seismic activity began at 1:40 am with a magnitude 4.6 earthquake, which was followed by a sequence of aftershocks, including tremors of magnitude 3.6, 3.9, and 4.1 on the Richter scale.
According to the seismic alert, while the epicentre was located in the Hingoli-Nanded area, the tremors were distinctly felt in Nirmal, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Kamareddy, and Jagtial districts.
Reports have indicated that the aftershocks tend to occur following a significant earthquake of 4.6 magnitude. The subsequent tremors tend to decrease in frequency and magnitude over a period of time and are a standard part of the seismic event, reports said.
Despite the series of tremors, there have been no reports of casualties or significant structural damage resulting from the seismic events. The general public and even residents in the affected areas can check for similar alerts from the National Centre for Seismology website, which tracks live seismic events taking place in the Indian sub-continent.
